Hersteloperatie + toeval

De afgelopen weken is er door de plastisch chirurg besloten dat er een hersteloperatie nodig is om van de problemen met het bindweefsel in mijn nek en wang af te komen. Volgende week een opname van een aantal dagen, waarin naast deze operatie ook nog mijn schouder zal worden “opgerekt” zodat ik die wat beter kan gebruiken. De banden van mijn schouder zijn nl. verkleefd waardoor er een forse beperking is ontstaan in het gebruik.
De stijgende lijn in mijn herstel, die ik heb ondervonden sinds ik thuis ben gekomen, is zo’n 2 weken geleden afgevlakt. Mijn weerstand neemt verder af  (van 3 naar 2.4) waardoor ik vatbaarder ben voor virussen. Daarnaast voel ik me vermoeider dan de periode daarvoor doordat ik minder rode bloedlichaampjes heb en doordat ik actiever ben en meer onderneem.

Geen idee hoever ik terugval na deze operatie. Het vervolgtraject is in ieder geval weer aansterken tot ik klaar ben voor de stamceltransplantatie. Naar verwachting zal dit traject na de zomer starten met de onderzoeken die objectief moeten meten of ik lichamelijk deze zware behandeling kan doorstaan. Hart, longen etc.

Toeval.
Wat een toeval vandaag. Vanmiddag gaat de telefoon. Mijn dochter Karin neemt op en heeft een verslaggever van Radio Utrecht/RTV Utrecht aan de lijn. In dit radioprogramma bellen ze iemand in de regio wiens achternaam te maken heeft met een actualiteit. Vandaag rijden duizenden mensen de Alpe d’Huez op en dacht de verslaggever “laat ik maar eens een van den Berg bellen”.
Ik heb het gesprek overgenomen en verteld over mijn ziekte. Wel heel bijzonder dat ze precies bij mij terecht komen. Iedereen aan het fietsen om onderzoek naar kanker mede te kunnen financieren. Heb officieel geen kanker, maar Myelofibrose lijkt daar toch aardig op. Het kan een voorloper zijn van (acute) leukemie.

I liked to think that from then on these things were continually instilled in children at school. I guess not, and we were just lucky.
